Time to get Busy

General

  • The American collegiate Sports consist of NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) I, II and III, and the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) and the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics).
  • The NCAA I comprises of the biggest Colleges/Universities in the U.S.A. and as a general rule the level of sports practised in this division is of the highest order. Individual teams vary and a stronger team in one of the other divisions may well play at a higher standard of sport than a weaker team playing in the NCAA I.
The NCAA II contains smaller universities and offer a wide range of teams at various competitive levels. The NCAA III is generally viewed as the weakest division and does not offer sports scholarships, they may however provide financial aid.
  • The NAIA, can be compared to the level of the NCAA II and does offer ssports scholarships. American Future Skills work with the NCAA Division I & II institutes and NAIA Colleges and Universities to provide prospective High School Students with the opportunity of securing a scholarship in the sport of his or her choosing.
  • The best time to travel to the USA having obtained a scholarship is immediately after graduation or final year of high/grammar/secondary school or up to two years after providing the student has remained in full time education during this time. Athletes are normally required to be 18 to compete within the college sports leagues and U.S. Coaches are looking for younger athletes allowing them more time to work with the players and assist them in reaching their full potential as a student athlete.
  • Sports scholarships are popular for both male and female participants and there are many American Colleges/Universities throughout the U.S.A. who offer scholarships to students who are serious about attaining their academic degree and are also very talented athletes (see AFS requirements).
  • In order to further raise the attractiveness of the students profile it is important that he/she try to participate at the highest level of sport as possible in their home country. Often the athlete's potential is a vital aspect, as coaches know from experience that even moderate athletes performances can be improved upon with the Colleges/University training methods.
Applicants who are successful in being offered a sports scholarship in general can expect varying daily training sessions of 2 - 3 hours each that will encompass both cardiovascular and strength conditioning work.
Due to the challenging training schedule, athletes often achieve previously unattained levels of fitness and performance while playing at college and many have gone on to be professional athletes and coaches.
